Peace, Peace...But There Is No Peace

At the dedication ceremony for the World Trade Center's "Twin Towers" in 1973, chief architect Minoru Yamasaki had this to say...
"The World Trade Center is a living symbol of man's dedication to world peace ...the World Trade Center should...become a representation of man's belief in humanity...his ability to find greatness." http://www.brainyquote.com

Twenty-eight years later, in the most horrific and ironic way, Mr. Yamasaki's prediction came true...the Twin Towers did indeed become a sobering representation of what happens when men place their faith in themselves! Now this "living symbol of man's dedication to world peace" has received a new rebuke. Ship-builders took 24 tons of scrap steel from the twin towers and used it to construct the bow section of the newly commissioned warship, the "USS New York".

The ship's motto is: "Never Forget". I honor the victims of 911 and their grieving families just as I know you do. But in addition to remembering their lives, the more important thing that we need to remember and "never forget" is the Word of God!

This coming Thursday, the entire nation will commemorate the 7th anniversary of 911. I would like to present a biblical perspective here that I hope will edify us as we consider what lessons God wants us to learn from the tragedies of 911.

"No one has real understanding...All have turned away from God... They do not know what true peace is." - Romans 3:10-17

"...There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be... unholy, without love... brutal..." -2 Tim. 3:1-3"

...they lead my people astray, saying, 'Peace,' when there is no peace..."
Ezekiel 13:10"

And another horse appeared, a red one. Its rider was given a mighty sword and the authority to remove peace from the earth. And there was war and slaughter everywhere." - Revelation 6:4

"I am leaving you with a gift - - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives.  So don't be troubled or afraid."                   John 14:27

"The Lord will settle international disputes. All the nations will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. All wars will stop, and military training will come to an end." - Micah 4:3

Dear Saints, if you listen to this world, all you will hear is lying prophets crying, "peace, when there is no peace...".  If you trust in the "arm of flesh", you will not see men beating their "swords into plow-shares", but rather beating their "plow-shares into swords"! The USS New York is a sobering testimony to this.

Let the people of God cry out a different message to this grieving world that doesn't know how to find true peace.

Let us tell them (and remember ourselves!) that our help comes only from the God of Heaven, and that real, true peace can be achieved only when the "Prince of Peace" is reigning on the throne in the hearts of all mankind! Until then...
